Louisville, KY (PRWEB) December 21, 2011
The Northwest Indiana Region of Farm Credit Services of Mid-America has announced two stewardship grants to agencies within its service area.
The first was to Habitat for Humanity of Benton, Fountain and Warren Counties. Habitat is a Christian Mission founded on the conviction that every man, woman, and child should have a simple, decent place to live in dignity and safety.
Sandy Tabert, treasurer for the local chapter, explained that typical applicants for a Habitat home are people who are working and would like to own their own home, but are struggling financially. Once chosen, the recipients must take classes and put in required sweat equity hours before construction begins.
I like to say that we believe in giving a hand up, not a handout, said Tabert. We rely on donations of money, materials, and labor to fund these homes, and gifts like the one from Farm Credit are essential to our mission.
Farm Credit Financial Services Officer Sonia Gick, who is based in the Williamsport field office, was a volunteer at the Habitat house at this years Indiana State Fair. She said that FCS also wanted to do something to support Habitat in their own region. Farm Credit serves rural America, and we wanted to do something we knew would help a family in our community, she said.
A check for $ 3,000 was presented to Tabert on July 1.
A second grant for $ 1,000 was presented to Purdue University to support a series of training workshops for volunteer fire departments and EMTs on rescue procedures for farmers trapped in grain bins.
Were very grateful to Farm Credit Services for their assistance in this effort, said Dr. Bill Fields of Purdues Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering. Grain bin rescue involves some very specialized procedures which most firemen and EMTs, even in rural areas, are not familiar with. As a result of these training workshops, weve actually had some instances where farmers who were partially buried have been rescued out of these bins.
Randi Potts, a Financial Services Officer working out of the Valparaiso field office, said giving back to the rural areas they serve is central to Farm Credits stewardship program.
We feel strongly about farm safety, she said. We believe funding for this grain entrapment rescue training is a good way to help improve safety for the farmers in our community.
The Northwest Indiana region of Farm Credit Services of Mid-America serves about 2,800 customers through offices in Lafayette, Valparaiso, Rensselaer, and Williamsport. With $ 604 million in loans for all types of farm and rural living purposes, including real estate, operating, equipment, and housing loans, FCS also provides an array of financial services, including crop insurance and leases. While many Farm Credit loans are to full-time farmers, they also serve part-time farmers and non-farming rural residents who have home loans.

For a young livestock showman, bringing home a banner or trophy from the State Fair represents the ultimate goal of a year of hard work and dedication with their 4-H or FFA animal. However in Ohio in 2011, that almost didnt happen.
Farm Credits Southwest Ohio Regional Vice President Mike Westfall told how he learned of the Fairs impending dilemma.
My wife is on one of the State Fair livestock committees, and after one of their meetings, said that all funding for 4-H and FFA awards and premiums at the State Fair had been eliminated, said Westfall. They really didnt know what they were going to do.
Westfall suggested applying for a grant from Farm Credits Greater Support for Rural America program, which provides funds to support agriculture, giving priority to youth and young farmers. He and his wife collaborated with Ohio State Fair General Manager Virgil Strickler to write the request, and a few months later, were notified that Farm Credit would donate $ 21,000. This would cover half the cost of awards and premiums for the beef, swine, chicken, sheep and goat shows, with the remaining half being furnished by other supporters. In all, these shows included 5,000 youth exhibiting 8,000 animals.
Ohio State Fair General Manager Virgil Strickler is a former 4-H and FFA member himself and knows well the importance of those programs to a young persons development. He also recognizes the role of tangible awards in motivating and reinforcing leadership development, work ethic, responsibility, and many other lessons.
In todays economic environment, everyones budget is tight and theres no way we could have funded those awards on our own, he said. We were very fortunate to have Farm Credit and others step forward to help us. Without the awards, it would have really hurt our shows, and we feel its extremely important to keep the agricultural side of the fair going. The families of the young people were also very appreciative.
Westfall, also a former 4-Her, now serves on one of the State Fair livestock committee as well as the Ohio 4-H Foundation Board. He was glad to have been a link in helping to keep a tradition alive.
At Farm Credit, a very large percent of our employees have been in 4-H or FFA and many have children in those programs, so were very aware of their value. There are few things as rewarding as being able to help kids who have worked on their projects all year, he said. We get as much out of it as they do.
Westfall added that helping rural communities is an integral part of Farm Credits mission.
Were here to support both agriculture and rural communities, and 4-H and FFA are an important part of their fabric, he said. Our mission goes beyond just providing financial services. Thats why we have a stewardship programwe use some of our profits to put back into those rural communities we serve.
Earlier this month, Farm Credit announced that the ag lender will also support the program in 2012.

Louisville, KY (PRWEB) December 22, 2011
The Pike County Agricultural Societys efforts to raise funds to build a new sheep and goat barn at the County Fairgrounds received a boost recently with a $ 5,000 gift from Farm Credit Services of Mid-America. The check was presented by Farm Credit financial services officer Tony Brammer of the Lucasville office to officers of the Ag Society at its annual carnival earlier this fall.
Farm Credit really stepped up to be a good partner with us and see that we got our goal accomplished, said PCAS member and Pike County Extension Educator Jeff Fisher. We appreciate their support, both on this project and in the past, where theyve been there for us at our livestock sales and other fundraising activities.
The PCAS has invested nearly $ 1 million over the past ten years to build new livestock barns, meeting rooms, multi-purpose buildings, an Extension office, and operational facilities at the Pike County Fairgrounds. The barn for sheep and goats is the final phase of that construction.
In addition to serving as a sheep and goat facility during the annual 4-H fair, the fairgrounds location at the Crossroads of Southern Ohio will allow it to also serve as a venue for a wide range of events from a ten-county area. Anticipated activities would include Quality Assurance training, the Ohio Valley Animal Extravaganza, Portsmouth Rabbit Breeders regional and state shows, as well as providing a much-needed location for social events like reunions and receptions. The facility is also expected to generate some additional revenue during the winter as a storage facility for campers and commercial food booths. Construction is slated to begin in 2012, and be completed in time for next summers fair the first week of August.
Were hoping to get a lot of mileage out of this facility, said Fisher. Well be able to have a lot of youth trainings of various types where we can have kids here from 8 to 10 counties at a time.
Fisher first learned about Farm Credits stewardship initiatives in local communities through his role as a Farm Credit advisory committee member with the Lucasville office. He approached Brammer in October about the possibility of getting an FCS grant, and the two of them worked together on the application, which was approved a short time later.
Brammer indicated that the gift was part of the ag lending cooperatives commitment to being an active good neighbor in the communities they serve. Through its stewardship program, Farm Credit places a high priority on supporting youth activities like 4-H and FFA, and by offering programs like guaranteed loans for young and beginning farmers.
Thats a big part of what were here for, said Brammer. Were not just about lending, but also about giving money back through our stewardship program. A lot of us at Farm Credit have either been in 4-H or FFA, or have kids in them, and recognize the value of these programs. Were glad we have organizations in this county that are taking the initiative to improve opportunities for our youth. After all, youth is where the future is.

Los Angeles, CA Residents Now Get More Bang for the Buck with New Bundled Phone Services
Louisburg, NC (PRWEB) September 6, 2004
CEO, Barbara Pioreck, says this is the best thing ever to happen in the industry. As a transplant from New York, long distance has always been a big expense for her family. Now with unlimited long distance bundles, she can check on family up north and still afford to see a Mudcats game or maybe a Hurricaines game too and enough to buy a hotdog at the game.
While the company currently offers service from more then 40 individual service providers at http://ld.net/?mysolution we highly recommend the three best local service options for Los Angeles residents.
Option one is Broadvox Direct. Broadvox Direct offers unlimited calling plans to anywhere in the US and Canada for a low monthly payment starting from only $ 29.95 for residential and $ 44.95 for business accounts.
HOW BROADVOX WORKS
Today, most long distance telephone calls are carried over the Internet. Yes, the big name telephone companies route calls through the Internet. With Broadvox Direct your calls are transmitted directly to, and received directly from the Internet. This direct connection creates fabulous savings, and provides for new powerful Internet based phone features. You won't hear any difference between calls made on Broadvox Direct and the traditional PSTN (Public ServiceTelephone Networks); but you will notice huge Savings, Free Features, and a telephone that adjusts to your Lifestyle.
http://ld.net/products/?page=home&product=bvox&cogid=mysolution&refid=ld.net/
Then there is Talk America who was one of the first bundle local telephone companies to start competing with the RBOCs (such as Verizon, South West Bell, Bell South, Pac Bell, etc). Talk America does not have the cost advantage in some areas offered by Broadvox Direct but in a few areas of the state they are even more competitive. Our goal with this new section of our site is simply to insure that Los Angeles residents are presented with all their options for residential and commercial use.
